Horsetail Falls Loop Hike

This weekend's rainy adventure was hiking in the  Columbia River Gorge again!

TJ's sister had come up from LA to visit and we took her on a new hike.

There are just so many gorgeous things to see. This one was no exception.  This pic is taken as we walk under the pony tail falls.

Unpacking with Friends

I thought I'd share this little treat of a picture.

I'm currently up to my eye balls in boxes and its mildly traumatic... but it was such a joy to unpack these 'pimp cups' my bridesmaid Blair made me for my Handfasting ceremony in NY last autumn.

Makes me feel like I have some real cheerleaders when throwing away old spices, ill-fitting skirts and pointless papers I have kept for too long.

Hurrah for good friends!

New Apartment

Here is a little glimpse into our dinning room at our new place. Look at that vintage light fixture.

We move this weekend - so wish us luck :)

How excited we are to be reunited with our things after living in suitcases for 6 weeks!

Where in the World...

Sometimes I forget where I am.

So I go to google maps and wait for the blue dot to start winking at me.

I am really in the middle of no where! Getting used to being on Pacific time is a challenge. I feel like we are catching up the rest of the world all day... not to mention when people are live tweeting something they are watching on the East Coast and I don't realize and then its all like NO NO NO my EYES stop... Spoiler Alert.

Wind Mountain Spirit Quest

This hike was one of the more profound trips I have ever taken. The history of the place, the untouched nature of it, the sheer reward you get from the steep climb up the mountain, meant that when I reached the top, I was very moved.

I found out about this place from instagram of all places. I have been following this local guy from Oregon who happened to 'like' one of my Portland pictures when I was here in January visiting. His pictures always show some epic Oregon adventure and inspire me to do something. This time he was the inspiration for the entire trip.

So the Spirit Quest: its a Native American right of passage. The quest itself could take many days of seclusion in the wild. The goal was to gather greater meaning and purpose for your life by meeting your Spirit Guide, or Spirit Animal whilst out braving the elements on your own. You would hike up the mountain on your own, carrying rocks up as you went and then build these small circles from the stones. Then meditate inside the circle structure and wait until your vision came. The experience for me was quite intense, so for teenager taking this trip on their own and being up there overnight, I can only imagine the depths their thoughts would take them.

I want to say that this was my favorite experience so far. I was extremely humbled by how I felt sitting at the top of the mountain on the rocks likely carried by hand, over looking the river over 1000 ft below.

(Also, this was my first time in the State of Washington, which is the other side of the Columbia river gorge. So that was fun in itself. I always get cheap thrills when I enter a State I've never been into before)

Korean Tacos!

Gosh I am getting sentimental about leaving our temporary housing in the Pearl.

I can walk to the food carts every day and rejoice in the delights such as Korean Kimchi Tacos!

But yet more change awaits us as we move to our new place this weekend... once you are out of your comfort zone, you are really out there.
